Left: the polarizing filter was rotated to let the reflected light from the water pass, so it became the dominant light source. Right: the reflections were filtered out as much as possible, exposing more of the foreground and sky.

This picture is created by carefully rotating a polarizer filter for as much detail as possible and underexposing a bit. Later, the contrast and brightness were raised to show even more detail.

Clouds appear by polarisation

A polarisation filter does a great job getting clouds more pronounced on a photo. In this case, some of the haziness also disappeared:
